The article focuses on the studies which aim to explain the origins of humans' cognitive capacity to perceive and process music. It discusses the challenges facing researchers in identifying the biological and cultural influences on humans' musicality and the studies which point to the possibility of common neural circuitry in the evolutionary roots of musicality. It also cites the conflicting views of researchers and the inherent challenge in proving that music is an evolutionary adaption. |
