Pigmented lesions of the eyelids and conjunctivae may be divided into two general categories: those of melanocytic and those of non-melanocytic composition. Clinical differentiation of both from malignancies is important, and often difficult. Non-melanocytic dyschromias may be of endogenous or exogenous origin or may be false pseudopigmentations. Conjunctival and corneal pigmentation may result from prolonged use of epinephrine for the treatment of glaucoma. Upon oxidation, epinephrine appears as black, well circumscribed areas which may mimic rnelanocytic lesions. |
