An essay is presented on Anglo-German cultural transfer demonstrated at the core of the historical novel and the literary fantastic, regarded as two of the most popular literary forms in the nineteenth century. Particular focus is given to the relationship of novelist Sir Walter Scott to German literature and his review of Romantic author E. T. A. Hoffman as a productive moment in Anglo-German relations. |
