Abstrakt: The article discusses application of split-thickness skin graft in an elderly patient suffering from Level III melanoma, 1.5 cm in diameter, on the right pretibial surface. It is seen that some defects may result from surgery for cutaneous neoplasms. Depending upon the size and the location of the defect, reconstruction may be accomplished with regional and local flaps, full-thickness skin grafts and split-thickness skin grafts. At times, the size or the location of the defect may preclude the use of flaps or full-thickness skin grafts. In elderly patients, medically compromised patients, or debilitated patients, extensive reconstructive efforts may not be feasible. In these instances, a split-thickness skin graft can be applied rapidly and under local anesthesia if necessary.
