Abstrakt: Embarking on a research project can be a daunting task, assisted by a logical process and with expert guidance a pilot study is an excellent method to refine the process and your skills. A pilot study enables the researcher to determine the logistics of the study including time required, participant number and associated resources. This further enables the novice researcher to test data collection tools and ensure the method is robust and workable. This paper discusses the steps in undertaking research via a pilot study. The paper also provides an outline of the research process to ensure a study is feasible and provides nurses with evidence-based answers to clinical questions. Objectives • Consider possible questions/research ideas within your unit. • Determine what would be your objective for the research. • Understand how research answers clinical questions. • Understand the steps to consider when planning research. • Develop a template to review literature on a chosen topic. • Understand strengths, weaknesses and considerations when reviewing research to ensure validity.
