The article presents a brief account of the life of researcher James W. Burks III. Burks was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 25, 1911. He graduated with an MD degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1937 and obtained his Master of Science degree in Dermatology and Syphilology from the University of Minnesota in 1945. Burks earned international recognition through his work in cosmetic surgery. However, teaching was his first love. He belonged to a number of professional societies like the American Academy of Dermatology, where he served on the Board of Directors from 1956 to 1959. |
