This article presents the viewpoint of the author on the molecular controls of hair follicle morphogenesis and the chronobiological control system of hair follicle. According to the author to detect the mechanism that control hair follicle (HF) cycling and molecular characteristics of the hair cycle clock there is a need to developed comprehensive and testable theories of hair cycle control that account for the fact that no HF development occurs in the absence of the dermal papilla. Current chronobiological concepts hold that biological timing devices generally operate on the basis of "input" signals that entrain a central generator of cycling activity which, in turn, controls "output" signals that co-ordinate and changes in functions of the defined cell population. |
