Brief Background: The Aim of this study is to determine the level of radiation safety methods for dental professionals and patients in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Materials and Methods: A pilot survey was done and accordingly a survey questionnaire was designed containing 15 questions. This questionnaire was delivered to 400 dentists. It contained questions on intra-oral technique, image receptors, collimator, film speed, processing, viewing mode, lead apron. Results: The study yielded the participants knowledge regarding personal and patient protection which is limited. Only 1.8% of the dentists used rectangular collimator, 23% of the dentists used digital receptors. About 48.5% dentists do not wear lead apron during exposure and 44.8% of dentists do not make their patients wear lead apron during exposure. Only 16.3% of the dentists stand behind the lead barrier. Conclusion: The current survey has emphasized on the need for further implementation of radiation protection principles among the dental practitioners in private dental offices and hospitals.
