An essay is presented on philosopher Theodor Adorno's aesthetics of negation and the theory of the postdramatic by theatre researcher Hans-Thies Lehman. It explores the aesthetics of negation of the films "The Bridegroom, the Comedienne and the Pimp" by Jean-Marie Straub and Daniele Huillet and "Katzelmacher" by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Topics covered include cinema's capacity to offer ethical insights, ethics of spectatorship, dialogical narratives, and stimulation of viewers' imagination. |
