In this study, calcium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite, potassium ferricyanide, and hydrogen peroxide are experimentally investigated as electrolytes for aluminum batteries. Different factors such as NaOH concentration, electrolyte concentration, current density, and temperature are experimentally investigated using the Taguchi statistical method. Also ANOVA is utilized to determine the importance of each parameter on performance of the battery. For each of these 4 chemistries, a L9 orthogonal array with the 4 factors of control at three levels each was employed. Optimization of aluminum batteries' performance in low concentration electrolytes using commercial, inexpensive aluminum with the purity according to ASTM 1050 standard (purity 99.5%) is investigated. At the optimum operating conditions, specific energies up to 2386 WH/kg and power densities up to 77.6 mW/cm² are obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
