Abstrakt: The article discusses the June 1689 witchcraft trial of Anna Maria Knöspel of the Lutheran city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, initiated by rumors started by her 11-year old son Hans Adam Knöspel who claimed he went to a witches' sabbath ceremony on Walpurgis night, or April 30th. Topics considered include the impact of the trial of the Knöspel family which also included Hans Adams' father and sister, beliefs related to witches and their families, gender and patriarchy, and demonology and the church in 17th century Germany.
