Abstrakt: The Phyllophora field of NW Black Sea, known also as Zernov Phyllophora field, after its Ukrainian first explorer, has been spread over large areas on the NW Black Sea shelf at the beginning of the 20th Century. In the second half of the last century, the Phyllophora field drastically reduced on the Ukrainian Black Sea shelf and disappeared on the NW Romanian Black Sea shelf due to the intense anthropogenic pressure and climate change which spread over the NW shelf starting with the 1970s. These factors change the production processes and the structural-functional organization of the Phyllophora communities. In the frame of the FP7 Collaborative Project CoCoNET, three Romanian expeditions were performed on the northern extremity of the Romanian Black Sea shelf, at the boundary with the Ukrainian territorial sea waters. The main aim was to discover if the Zernov Phyllophora field is recovering in the N part of the Romanian Black Sea shelf. The expeditions were successful, and specimens belonging to the Phyllophora truncata have been identified. These findings could be interpreted as a signal of marine ecosystem improvement in the NW parts of the Black Sea shelf region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
