PREDICTION OF POROSITY IN IRON-BASED POWDER METALLURGY (P/M) MATERIALS USING AN IMAGE PROCESSING SOFTWARE.

Abstrakt: The purpose of this paper was to apply a computer method for prediction of porosity in some iron-based P/M materials. The powders used in this study are prealloyed iron-based powders with the particle size ranging from 45 to 150 µm. The powders mixtures were consolidated at a pressure of 600 MPa. After compaction, the green compacts were sintered at 1150°C for 30 minutes. In the next step, the sintered specimens were subjected to carburizing in fluidized bed at 930°C for 60 minutes. The obtained samples were examinated by optical microscopy for microstructure and porosity analysis. The pore's shape and porosity fraction were measured using conventional and image analysis techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
