Abstrakt: The article discusses a study that screened some selected plant species used in Southwest-Nigerian ethnomedicine for the availability of alpha-amylase inhibitors. Findings showed that from among the plants selected, the n-butanol fraction from extracts of Nuclea diderrichii had the highest alpha-amylase inhibitory activity comparable to acarbose. It suggests further investigations to isolate, purify and identify the inhibitory compound from the N. diderrichii extract.
