Abstrakt: Scarring alopecias are a heterogeneous group of disorders which result in the common endpoint of follicular destruction. The scarring alopecias have been historically grouped and categorized according to clinical criteria. This categorization is not ideal. The term "scarring" is cumbersome, potentially inaccurate and may have different meaning for the clinician and pathologist, but it is a well-established term in the literature and in clinical use. Primary scarring alopecias have been grouped and categorized according to clinical, histologic and proposed pathogenic criteria.
