A pilot study on telepsychiatry was conducted in which a videoconferencing link was established between a regional hospital and a care and attention home. Using this system, a psychogeriatric outreach team provided 149 psychiatric assessments to 45 residents of the care and attention home over 11 months. Videoconferencing was found to be highly feasible. It was acceptable to staff and patients and more cost-effective than on-site visits. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
