A study of the commercial broiler production systems in Al-Jabal Alakhdar (The Green Mountain) area in Libya was conducted using a baseline survey covering from May to December 2015. This survey focused mainly on the characterization of the flock size and structure, housing system, marketing, stocking density of broilers and ownership patterns. The results illustrated that; the total number of boilers bird/ year (average 4.5 cycles of production) to be two million birds giving (3000) tons of meat with an average body weight of (1413gm) for each bird productions at age of 32 days, poultry feed consumed is around (5900) tons/production year. The total number of broilers farms in AL-Jabal ALakhdar was 96% of the total (103/107) poultry farms, provide total (104) direct jobs and the equivalent of 52% of which were out of service. There are no accurate statistical values about the size of the broiler industry in Libya, lack of information about workers in the industry and its problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
