Abstrakt: The article is dedicated to research on relationship between size of general government sector and economy, which identification was conducted by application of LEM2 algorithm. The article is based on 18 variables that were selected for examination and that describes economy as well as on 15 variables describing sizes of the general government sector. Mentioned variables were tested basing on a sample of EU Member States on the period covering years 2000-2013. The collected statistical data were used to develop a set of economic data and set of data that present size of the general government sector. Acquired this way sets of data omit a characteristics of particular states and collected data were used to identify relationships between the size of the sector and the economy, while maintaining the distribution of the individual included in the study years and while separating pairs of variables identified in terms of the relationship between the size of the general government sector and the economy. Obtained this way matrix allowed to determine which variables remain together in a relationship and which among selected to research ratios, presenting size of the sector, did not indicate on relationship with economic variables in examined period or eventually indicated the relationship very rarely. Conducted analysis allowed to determine which variables describing the size of the general government sector should be included to study on relationship on the line: the size of the general government sector - the economy, and which of them should be omitted due to the minimal relationship with economic variables.
