We are recommending, in this article, the analysis of the methods of selecting the weights of criteria in order to obtain a multicriteria analysis, methods that can be direct or indirect and which have the role of ranking the suggested variants. Out of the methods presented in the professional literature, we have chosen for our analysis the rating method and the analytical ranking process method. In order to be able to accomplish this comparison, we analyzed a real situation that is the selection of a bituminous hydro insulation membrane for a terraced roof. The researches made highlighted the advantages and the limitations of the suggested methods, as well as the fact that regardless the method used for establishing the weights, the ranking of the variants proposed for a multi-criteria analysis is not influenced by the methods of selecting the weights.
