Dialogue as a technique for group facilitation is valuable for social workers working in the international arena. This article explores the theoretical and practical implications of the dialogue approach. The authors have found that this process offers transformative experiences for participants when used at multinational, multicultural conferences and training events. Two examples of the dialogue approach are presented, from consultation and conference work in Russia and Central and Eastern European communities. Dialogue is a technology and skill for all of us committed to our own transformation as global citizens. As human services professionals go on to address their concerns in specific practice situations, the dialogue approach can help to deal more effectively with social problems and societal concerns. Practitioners in social work, educators, social researchers, community change agents and managers should find this group work approach a beneficial addition to their professional practice. |
