Investigation of Magnetocaloric Effect in GdGa0.8Ge0.2.

Abstrakt: The magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect of the pseudo binary rare-earth compound GdGa0.8Ge0.2 is reported. The compound undergoes a long range antiferromagnetic ordering below TN =179 K. We find clear thermal hysteresis in our magnetization data between 177 and 25 K indicating the first order nature of the magnetic transitions occurring at TN. We get the maximum value of entropy change ΔS = -5.0 J/K kg under the application of 50 kOe of field. The relative cooling power for 50 kOe of field change is 141.12 J.Kg-1 around TN which is quite large. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
