Determination of Site response in Earth dam based on Seismic Spectrum using Shear Beam Method.

Abstrakt: Determination of site response for short earth dams based on spectrum acceleration is the main purpose of the present study. Due to evaluate amplification phenomena at the dam crest under earthquake on the bedrock, the Shear Beam Method (SBM) using Excel program was developed in order to data analysis. The amplitude of dam height for homogeneous type was between 20 to 50 meters, and six famous earthquakes with respect to different spectrum acceleration were applied. As results, duration of earthquake showed the major effect for site response with low intensity, when it's on short time. Increasing of the dam height led to high level of amplification with respect to low effect of damping ratio. In case of peak ground acceleration, amplification process was more sensible in maximum height (50 meter). In all cases, amplification ratio was more than three. Consequently, resonance phenomena should avoid through design process for short height (20 meter). Finally, a good degree of agreement between shear beam method and one case study with respect to background in order to verify method was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
