Azygos fissure is the rarest accessory fissure of the lungs. Usually it is overlooked or misinterpreted as lamellar atelectasis or encapsulated pleurisy. The aim of this report is to warn the clinicians about the existence of azygos fissure, to illustrate the embryological aspects which lead to fissure formation and to review its clinical approach. We report here three different cases which show the azygos fissure and azygos lobe. Two of these cases where identified on thoracic radiography and the last one during a thoracic and abdomino-pelvic CT scan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
