Abstrakt: Lichens have been used medicinally across the globe and the medicinal property is related to the presence of secondary metabolites present in them. In the present study, the phenolic and flavanoid contents, percentage extractives, fluorescence analysis of extracts,in vitroantioxidant and antibacterial potential ofParmotrema stuppeumwere evaluated. The total phenolic content of ethyl acetate and methanolic extracts were 44 mg/g and 44.30 mg/g respectively. Similarly the flavonoid contents were 3.75 mg/g and 4.26 mg/g respectively. The methanolic extract of theP. stuppeumshowed higher DPPH radical scavenging activity. Further, the antibacterial activity was tested against seven pathogenic bacterial strains and the chloroform extracts which showed potential antibacterial activity againstBacillus cereus(18 mm) andStaphylococcus epidermidis(17 mm). The extracts were further subjected to column chromatography and 100% chloroform fraction showed significant antibacterial activity againstBacillus cereus(28 mm) andStaphylococcus epidermidis(23 mm).
