The goal of this study is to offer a different perspective on two of the most common tumors of the breast - fibroadenoma and cancer, with all the difficulties in establishing a differential diagnosis and choosing a specific treatment for each patient. Fibroadenoma is the most common benign tumor of the breast in women under 30 years of age. As material and methods, we have used the archives of the Emergency Military Hospital Iaşi's radiology department and a group of 10 female patients of the "Breast Care" clinic in Iaşi. In order to establish a diagnosis, mammary and axillary ultrasound was needed, followed by core needle biopsy, for diagnostic certainty, in some cases also followed by mammography and Ct, when there still was a suspicion of malignancy. Most patients were diagnosed with fibroadenoma and 3 of them underwent cryoablation. This minimally invasive procedure, conducted using ultrasound guidance, consists in freezing the tumor at very low temperatures, with a special needle, through which circulates liquid nitrogen. Approximately 20% of the patients had malignant tumors, 3 of whom presented the peaud'orange and were sent for treatment to the Regional Institute of Oncology in Iaşi. At present, according to some studies that took in place USA and Japan, the technique could be used in the treatment of some malignant tumors of the breast. The classical surgery technique consists in the local excision (lumpectomy) or radical mastectomy in advanced tumors. Post-treatment observation of the patients is made after 6 months and after a year, as there is a possibility of formation of new nodules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
