Abstrakt: The article presents an expressive theory of poetry. Philosopher John Stuart Mill proposes that poetry and eloquence are both the expression or utterance of feeling, but poet Horace was the first to transformed the notion of expression into an aesthetic imperative. Other philosophers who gave expressive definitions of poetry include Giambattista Vico in his book "Scienza nuova," poet William Wordsworth, and Benedetto Croce, who asserts that poetry constitutes an act of expression.
