An essay is presented on the understanding of soul represented in the two novels of author Saul Bellow, "Humboldts' Gift" and "Ravelstein." It discusses the preservation of the soul of literary and intellectual culture against decline. It mentions several themes of his novel including greatness of soul entails ideal of Socratic self-knowledge, tragic lack of self-knowledge, and critical self-examination. |
