Abstrakt: The reduced life of hard-alloy plates in cutting a reinforced buttress thread on high-strength alloy blanks is analyzed. The configuration employed industrially for thread cutting impermissibly reduces the thickness of the layer that is cut by the 3° side of the plate and converts the process from cutting to smoothing. Means of increasing tool life by a factor of 2-3 are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
