Abstrakt: The article discusses American medical ethics and the legal rights of patients in relation to requests to deactivate implanted cardiac-assist devices such as pacemakers, left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICSs) as of 2013. An informed consent medical law doctrine is examined, along with U.S. constitutional rights, physician-assisted suicide laws, and questions about the ownership and control of implanted cardiac-assist devices.
