Abstrakt: Preservation of the rectum with normal sphincter function after total colectomy for polyposis and ulcerative colitis has been demonstrated by a new method, which is based on the fact that the rectal mucosa can be regenerated after it has been curetted. The operation is described and results shown in six patients (three with polyposis and three with ulcerative colitis), all of whom have normal continence and continuity.
