Abstrakt: A new driving scheme and circuit for a low-cost local dimming Xe backlight unit are proposed based on the ac-discharge principle that a subsequent discharge can be easily produced under a low voltage condition due to the wall charges induced by the previous discharge. As a result, the proposed scheme only requires 4 transformers for the operation of a 40-in. Xe backlight with 64 local dimming blocks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
