Abstrakt: The primary aim of this article is to comment on the earliest coastal human settlement in the European North, especially along the coast of northern Norway. Did the first settlers migrate to these coastal areas from the west or the east? Did dry land exist beyond the outermost coastal islands on the submerged strandflat and the continental shelf during the postglacial time? Knowledge about the deglaciation of the last ice sheet and relative sea level changes in the area is a useful tool in a scientific approach when focusing on early human migration. An interactive computer modelling programme comprising sea level data and diagram presentations facilitates the investigation of coastal settlement through time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
