The author reflects on the issue of when to retire for the individual physician. Topics discussed include the increase and decrease of cognitive function with age, the formation of a Senior Physician Section (SPS) by the American Medical Association (AMA) to evaluate the competency of senior physicians and an active senior section at the Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS) which meets regularly to discuss and evaluate issues specific to the aging physician. |
