Abstrakt: Quaternary represents an important and mysterious part of the sediments of southern Iraq, as it contains a many types of sediment. A considerable number of species of foraminifera, Ostracoda and Mollusks are recorded from three boreholes, located at Faw, Khor Al-Zubair and Um-Qaser, with a depth that reaches 20 m, including some of new species. Based on numerous of these species, they are determining three to four important horizons that reflect special events happening in Quaternary period. The foraminiferal species concerned are discussed in detail with their environmental relationship, geographic and stratigraphic distributions. All these detail reveal the saline, mixed and fresh water which affect Basrah Quaternary deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
