Abstrakt: The world-famous "Trepça mine" (also renowned as the Stan Terg mine) is located near the Stan Terg village in Trepça valley, which belong to the Mitrovica municipality, Kosovo. The "Trepça ore field" is contoured in the area between the villages Vllahia in the north, from the east line of Dedi-Bare-Shlivovicë, from the south Karaqë-Sllatinë and from the west of the Sitnica river valley. The geochemical exploration methods are applied for the first time in the "Trepça ore field" by the years 1961/62 as part of geochemical prospectivity for heavy metals. The works are done by Belgrade "Geological and Geophysical Institute of Exploration". Geochemical exploration has continued in the years 1967/73/74/75/80 also from "Geozavod Institute" of Belgrade, to the recent years 2007/2008 by Beak Consultants GMBH, Freiberg. The project was followed by the preparation of the fieldwork (analysis of drainage system and topography, followed by defining the sample location points, GIS based modelling of drainage network and catchment areas). The stream sediment samples were taken in the field work and sent to the laboratory ACME Laboratories, Vancouver/Canada for ICP-MS analytics. The paper summarizes the results of a stream sediment sampling carried out in the area of the "Trepça ore field" with the main attention on precious metals (Au, Ag) and base metals (Zn, Pb, Cu). The survey has clearly outlined the known active and abandoned mining areas/mineral deposits of the Trepça ore field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
