Abstrakt: Assessment is an important process in education as it evaluates students' achievement, and also for supporting student learning. Game-based activity is widely used as an assessment strategy that helps students learn together. The objective of this study was to develop game-based activities: an interactive computer game and a card game, aiming to assess nursing students' understanding of tracheostomy care. The results of these game-based activities were compared with paper-pencil tests. The participants were sixty-five, second year nursing students. All students were asked to complete a pre-test before the study. Students then learn the topic of tracheostomy care via lecture. After that they were randomly divided into three groups for assessing the achievements by using a paper-pencil test, a card game activity, and an interactive computer game. The result showed that the scores of pre-test were not significantly different in all students. For the post-test, the scores of two groups of game-based activities were significantly higher than those of a paper-pencil group. The scores of the interactive computer game group were not significantly different from the scores of the card game group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
