The article focuses on an audit study to assess bed occupancy and determine nursing-staff levels using the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) guideline that a qualified nurse can care for a maximum of 3 children under two years old and a maximum of four children over two years old. The bed occupancy audit was done for six months and was done at any time of the day since patient admissions is allowed anytime. The study results revealed that reducing nursing staff led to nurses working beyond their capacity and patient transfer to non-local hospitals. |
