A simple calculation method has been devised for the determination of ventilation requirements in dead-ends for both mine roadways and civil tunnelling applications. The basic assumption, that the leakage flow rate over a piece of ductwork is constantly proportional to the circulating flow rate, allows the method to reach an explicit solution such that any problem can be solved by a straightforward procedure that avoids iterative or numerical approaches. Moreover, the parameters required for the calculation can be estimated easily from air mass-flow measurements made in the tunnel or roadway. The calculation method has been correlated against actual measurements obtained from underground operations and has also been written in the form of a computer program. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
