Abstrakt: Courts and legislators are increasingly encouraging or requiring interviews of child abuse victims to be video recorded. Though videotaping has many advantages, it is not a panacea. Indeed, videotaping will not be helpful unless investigators, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges are competent to assess the recording. Accordingly, no jurisdiction should require videotaping unless it first establishes a comprehensive training program to teach professionals the skills necessary to evaluate tapes. Indeed, professionals dealing with child abuse victims should be required to undergo this training. Professionals failing to complete the training should not be allowed to investigate, prosecute, defend or judge a case of child abuse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
