Abstrakt: In recent years, a large number of plants have been explored for their antimalarial potential. Active principles from these plants have been isolated and analyzed in detail. Except for artemisinin, none of the principles were near the effectiveness of the existing antimalarial drug quinine. Regarding artemisinin the yield and isolation again had a drawback. Due to drug resistance by the parasites against quinine and its derivatives, there exist lacunae in malarial chemotherapy. In the present review, a number of potential antimalarial plants explored in the last two decades have been brought out and a number of leads suggested on the basis of their antimalarial activities.
