Abstrakt: This article focuses on some aspects of the speech of members of a social group that can be regarded as the complete opposite of any female group, namely middle- and upper-class, middle-aged males from Oslo, Norway. The author advances whether there are salient syntactic features in speech of this particular group that distinguish it from other social groups, and whether such special traits that exist, if there are, can be explained. Data is taken from the first major sociolinguistic project in Norway which represents a breakthrough of this new discipline into Norwegian linguistic research. An overview of the project is presented and a brief survey of the syntactic model was employed in order to give a general background.
