Abstrakt: Three types of power have been proposed in an ideal-type model and their operation in a poly-ethnic school described. Pluralist societies face a dilemma of pluralism in education in which the major issue is the degree of centralized control that the dominant ethnic group exert over the curriculum provided for ethnic minority children in schools. A corollary of this model is the implied necessity to achieve more equitable distribution of the knowledge and conceptions that might improve ethnic children's life chances. As a first attempt at such conceptual mapping we can focus on the multi or poly-ethnic school, i.e., one which provides education for children from a variety of ethno-cultural backgrounds.
