Abstrakt: Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) is a major medical emergency. In 2007, a UK-wide GI bleed audit showed an overall mortality of 10% in patients admitted with AUGIB. Following results of this audit, both SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Network Guidelines) and NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) have published guidance on the management of this common and challenginggastroenterological condition to improve the standard of care for people with AUGIB. In this article,Vikramjit Mitra, Benjamin Marrow and Manu Nayar describe an evidence-based approach to the management of this common and life-threatening condition and review the literature around this topic.
