Abstrakt: In a stroke unit a fast ad well-considered choice of the discharge destination is very important to realize the optimal rehabilitation route for the individual patient. Most studies and decision models concerning the decision of the discharge destination from a hospital stroke unit base their conclusions upon the prognosis for future ADL (activities of daily living) functioning and ambulation. But the hypothesis that 'the prognosis for future ADL functioning and ambulation is the same as the prognosis for the future residence' has not been investigated. Insufficient knowledge exists about which predictive factors determine the ability to live independently. This is the reason for the current literature search for studies which explicitly investigated the prognosis for the future residence in a period of six months to one year after the stroke.
