This qualitative study explored the experiences of a group of women who migrated to the United States from Mexico and Central America, found employment in Nevada casinos, and eventually became active in the Hotel Employees, Restaurant Employees Union. Their stories chronicle both their journey and their transformation: the gradual giving way of initial hopelessness and despair to a sense of personal and collective political power. This study is part of a larger study of the experience of women casino workers in the context of economic globalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
