Abstrakt: Foreign body ingestion is a common problem in children, but fortunately the majority of swallowed foreign bodies traverse the gastrointestinal tract without any adverse effects. Retained foreign bodies in the esophagus can produce serious complications like perforation, mediastinitis, fistulization, etc. We report a case of an 11-year-old boy who was referred to our hospital with a history of progressive dysphagia and recurrent respiratory tract infections. The child was evaluated and diagnosed to have a foreign body impaction in the upper part of esophagus causing severe dysphagia with bronchopneumonia. Impacted foreign body was removed from esophagus through right thoracotomy, and esophageal defect was reconstructed primarily by autologous native pericardium. Post-op recovery was uneventful and excellent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
