Abstrakt: The article discusses the translation of religious texts and scriptures into modern languages as a part of Jewish modernization dealing with changes in Jewish learning, translation of Talmud, and new custom of vernacular worship. Topics include Catholic censorship, Jewish heritage, and Italian translations of rabbinic literature. Also discussed are works of philosopher Moses Mendelssohn and poet Samuel David Luzzatto. The article also discusses Italianization and cultural identity.
