The article describes the case of a 43-year-old female Caucasian teacher with a history of multiple sclerosis (MS) and who was diagnosed with sarcoidosis and xanthoma planum during MS treatment with interferon-beta 1a (IFN-B). The diagnosis was confirmed after performing nuclear magnetic resonance and electroneuromyography, abdominal computerized tomography and laboratory examination. A discussion on the etiology and treatment of MS and the mechanism of action of IFN-B 1a in MS is offered. |
