Abstrakt: The article presents a study examining how the fungus Neurospora crassa breaks down hemicellulose and suggesting that giving years the ability to break down hemicellulose may enhance the efficiency of biofuel production. It describes the protein identified in the study that can transport molecules of xylodextrin into the cells of the fungus, as well as the two enzymes that break down the xylodextrin to make simple sugars.
