Courses:Gender and Communication; Feminist Rhetorical Theory/Criticism; Gender, Sexuality and the Media Objectives:This semester-long activity for a Gender Fair project helps undergraduate students gain an appreciation of gender as a social, historical, and cultural construction that is constituted intersectionally (with race-class-sexuality, at minimum) and fundamentally through communication practices. Specifically, upon completing this project, students will be able to: (1) conduct and synthesize critical/qualitative research relevant to gendered expectations and experiences; (2) design creative and relevant messages aimed at explicating hegemonic understandings of gender; (3) communicate challenging scholarship with diverse audiences, through various media, including public presentations, visual displays, and interactive activities; (4) develop effective content aimed at encouraging specific social justice goals.
